As we were beginning to start planning and shooting are
music video we decided to do some research beforehand to allow ease when coming
to creating a plan for our music video we looked into cinematography planning a
series of shots we are going to use and also the effects, camera angles and lighting and techniques. We also
has to consider the effects recording in different location could have on sound
however we ruled out this issue by realising all audio from recording will be
taken out and replaced by the music of or choice.
We made call sheets, production schedules, role sheets,
recees and other things that would help make the planning process a lot easier
as this made it more organized and gave every member in our group a designated
job role to share the weight of responsibility equally.
Step by step of how
we achieved a successful plan for our music video
We got a sense of your budget.
Kept a notebook handy in case we got ideas we could easily
refer back to them.
Spoke to our artist/dancers, got an understanding of what
songs they are interested in and what would suit them best to ensure the best
outcome.
Listened to the song, we did this a couple times to get an
understanding of what the song was about to give us inspiration for what the
theme of our music video would be. We also watched many other music videos from
similar genres to ours for further inspiration and shooting ideas.
Refined our ideas.
Scouted various locations.
Lastly we created a storyboard with 60 frames ranging in
different angles, shots and locations.
Looking back at AS media I have realised my research skills
have drastically improved as I am now able to find suitable research
efficiently as I feel I now have better planning skills which makes research a
lot easier as I am now more organised and know exactly what I want to find and
how to find it.
in AS media we had to make a music magazine from scratch
constructed by researching what is needed to make a good music magazine and
also buy physically looking through magazines to gain inspiration and insight
and we were all fair new to the music magazine world this helped as we then
went on to producing rough drafts then developing them with real artist and
making a music magazine including our own choice of artists and genre.
To begin with as a group we researched rap music and looked
into the rap target audience. I found that the type of audience that will
listen to and watch Rap will be mostly males with some females and both are
likely to be of in their early to late teens as it tends to appeal more
significantly to individuals from this age range more than others, I would expect
that the audience will hold foreknowledge about the artist and the genre due to
the reasons above. As being a part of the target audience of the particular
song we chose to use for music video I would expect the artist’s videos and
lyrics to hold the key conventions of the genre while relating it to the
audience
Research
Making my music magazine cover page and contents page was
quite challenging but I was also able to gain a few new skills by using
software’s that I’ve never used such as ‘Photoshop’ and ‘In Design’, thus far
they have improved dramatically in A2 as I have a lot more practice using these
application which has made the process a lot easier. I wanted to be able to
create a professional looking magazine without it looking tacky I did this so
that when people see my magazine they will take it seriously and actually be
interested in what would have been inside if I did create a full magazine and I
feel I was able to achieve that by using simple fonts and genre specific images
to go with the theme of my college magazine. I also stuck by the three colour
house style scheme to enhance my professionalised look using only white orange
and black. I researched and used my own general knowledge about magazines to
ensure mine was up to a good standard by using things such as a bold masthead
to catch the audience’s eye, a few puff to make specific elements of the
magazine to stand out such as the price and a voucher information, I also used
a barcode to allow people to know that you can purchase it. And lastly I used
cover lines for important information that will be accessible in the magazine.
We found that this genre of music appealed more to the lower
class of individuals who are attracted by the urban culture and this is where
Hip-Hop/ Rap originated from, however it appeals to many other people too as
these urban areas which Hip-Hop and Rap are aimed at are generally very
multi-cultural. This is because the artist can relate to its audience as they
rap about the same kind of situations that these people have been through or
are going through and therefore it appeals to them making them the ‘target
audience’. When pitching our treatment we received positive feedback with
little to none bad feedback which was a good sign meaning we were doing
something right. From watching others music videos and hearing their feedback I
have gained some tips in order to enhance my music video such as correcting the
colour/tones of the footage used to insure all slips are in sync. This was a
positive feedback that we received from our peers which opened our eyes as we
originally didn’t see any problem with the colour of the clips but I have now
realised the difference it makes when correcting the colour and it also make
the video look more professional and well put together.
I believe our group organised our actors, locations and
props well. I know this because I took it upon myself to sort out roles and
insure everyone had a part to play in making this music video. We had some
group decisions to insure all member of the group where capable of performing
their roles to the best possible standard insuring a good outcome. This was
helpful as it decreased our risks of something going wrong. As a group we got
in contact with several dancers and actors within the college to insure we had
people who were close by and able to participate. This made our job a lot
easier as all dancers and actors where able to be filmed when we needed the
only problem we encountered was that some of our dancer could not make all
sessions as we all have very different time tables, however we always found a
way to make it work, such as after school/weekend sessions. We made recees,
which where pictures of our locations helping us determine where exactly we
wanted to shoot. We also made risk assessment forms which I filled out for the
group in order to rule out any risks that could arise when filming our music
video. We also got in contact with the people who own the Olympic park and leake street to authorize our access to these locations, we got no response but we at least have the proof that we tried to get in contact the these organisations. we also made release forms to give to our actors to notify them about what would be going on and if they agree to participate in the making of the music video.
Team meetings: They're vital for learning about our colleagues’ motivations, fears, hopes, troubles, etc. Team meetings are also a learning and improvement opportunity
that allows you to have discussions on what we went well in our sessions and how we could improve , such as using better camera angles how the lighting turned out if all members involved had enough energy when performing these meeting basically gave us useful feedback to incorporate into our up coming sessions in order to make the outcome as successful as possible.
I believe we carried out the same style of logistics planning
in our music magazines and just simply developed them used each others deigns ides and incorporated them all into our music video this meant we spent more time on it
as creating a music magazine is very different from making a video, a
lot more planning was needed in order to make our project a success. The music magazine
was planned out through drafting methods and trial and error to see which
themes font colours and various other conventions that are used within a music magazine where present and also fit well with the genre
on music I had chosen. This drafting method was useful as I had time to see
what I liked and disliked which decreased the risks of failing. I also was
able to develop my Photoshop skills and use them to the best of my ability
